HKR Kitzbühel
A Daredevil
31.10.2016
„D“, as Rahlves’ friends call him, won twice in Kitzbühel. What has remained from his victories? He cannot survive without ski sport - that is for sure. “He’s just a daredevil”, says friend, Naglich. An idealist, say others.
Hahnenkamm “Gams” trophies dominate the mantelpiece in his living room. The HKR Downhill winner of 2003 was out on the Streif as a forerunner in 2013 and 2014. “The Hahnenkamm does not let me go”, he says.
After his career in ski racing, he swapped to the Ski-Cross camp and ended his sporting career in 2010, after the Olympic Winter Games in Canada. “The Hahnenkamm victories and podium finishes have been my most important achievements”, says the American with a smile.
He supports junior athletes in his homeland, organizes training and races. He can be seen in the film, „Streif – One Hell of a Ride“, as well as several Warren Miller productions. Kitzbühel, however, exerts a special hold over him and although he is very busy, he makes sure he visits every year.
