Anderl Molterer Memorial in the Legends Park
16.01.2024

A memorial plaque commemorating Anderl Molterer was unveiled in the Legends Park on Monday. The Kitzbühel man was a member of Toni Sailer’s Wonder Team and still holds the record for the number of victories on the Hahnenkamm to this day. "The Blond Thunderbolt from Kitz " was four-time winner of the Combined discipline, triple winner of the Slalom and two-time victor of the Downhill on the Streif. He passed away on 24th October in his home country at the age of 92.

After the sad passing of Kitzbühel legend Anderl Molterer on 24th October last year, it was only natural that the "Blonde Thunderbolt" should be given a place of honour in the Legends Park. The project was coordinated by long-time KSC employee Gerhard Raffler, in accordance with the original idea proposed by Michael Huber and Franz Pfurtscheller in the form of a plaque held by two metal skis on the left and right. The memorial to Anderl Molterer is located alongside those commemorating Toni Sailer, Herbert Huber, Christl Haas and Christian Pravda.

Around 60 guests attended the unveiling on Monday evening to the sounds of Kitzbühel Weisenbläser brass band. OC Chief of KSC, Michael Huber, gave the welcoming speech and Mayor Klaus Winkler recalled the honour bestowed on Anderl in autumn. The certificate commemorating him being awarded the ring of honour has now found a worthy public place in the Start House on the Hahnenkamm. Stefanie Brix and her family as well as Dorina Zechner attended on behalf of the family. Ernst Hinterseer senior and Hias Leitner from the legendary Kitzbühel Wonder Team were also present.

Anderl Molterer’s success story remains impressive to this day. He triumphed nine times at the Hahnenkamm Races alone - more than anyone else in history. He is four-time winner of the Combined discipline, triple winner of the Slalom and two-time victor of the Downhill on the Streif, achieving his final victory in 1959.

After his active career, Anderl lived with his partner Kay in the USA for over 60 years. After her passing in late autumn 2022, Anderl set out to spend his remaining twilight years in his hometown of Kitzbühel, a wish he had often expressed. He passed away there on 24th October at the grand old age of 92.
