Travelling by Train to the Hahnenkamm Races
Dear Fans, please travel to Kitzbühel by train. The "Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm" stop is not far from the Streif and Ganslern finish area and the ÖBB "Hahnenkamm Express" shuttle service between Kirchberg and St. Johann in Tirol can be used free of charge. Extensive and free car parking facilities are located next to the railway line in Oberndorf and Kirchberg that enable convenient transit to the ÖBB "Hahnenkamm Express."
From 19th to 21st January 2024, Kitzbühel’s mobility partner, ÖBB, will be ramping up their services for the 84th Hahnenkamm Races. During Race Weekend, around 80,000 additional train seats will be provided for fans. The time-tested "Hahnenkamm Express" service will run free of charge and at regular intervals along the Kirchberg in Tirol - Kitzbühel - St. Johann in Tirol route. The "Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm" stop is located in the immediate vicinity of the finish area.
"Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm Station will accommodate 364 train stopovers during Race Weekend (Friday to Sunday), which is around 180 more than usual, " says Operations Manager Martin Holleis from ÖBB Infrastructure Operations Department. Moreover, S-Bahn trains will be running at double capacity with 400 seats and at 7.5-minute intervals throughout the weekend, which is virtually the same as underground transport frequency. "Around 80,400 additional rail seats will be made available to fans travelling to and from the event during Race Weekend. While this means there will be sufficient capacity, we ask fans nonetheless to try and use earlier services. Furthermore, all regional express (REX) trains with similarly increased capacity, will stop at the Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm stop during Race Weekend, which is another great advantage for the fans," adds project manager Markus Moser. Around 50 ÖBB employees will be on hand at the "Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm" stop alone to ensure that fans get to the races safely at peak times. Due to the international appeal of the Hahnenkamm Races, train attendants from Germany, Italy and Switzerland will also be on hand to provide assistance.
This is the 26th time that ÖBB has organised the mobility concept for race fans on behalf of event organisers, Kitzbühel Ski Club, with one of the fullest train timetables of the year. The sophisticated "Hahnenkamm Express" system with free shuttle trains operating on the approximately 20 km long section of railway line and six ÖBB stations between Kirchberg in Tirol – Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm forms the very backbone for travelling to and from the races.
Along route, the organisers provide official and extensive free parking facilities for Hahnenkamm Race visitors in Oberndorf in Tirol (coming from Salzburg/Munich) and Kirchberg in Tirol (coming from Innsbruck) to enable convenient transit to the ÖBB Hahnenkamm Express. The shuttle service transports fans almost directly to the finish area.
