Opening World Cup Training in Glorious Sunshine

22.01.2019

The first World Cup training took place on the Streif today under clear skies. According to FIS Race Director, Waldner, the conditions were super:

„It was a good decision to start training today, visibility is perfect. The slope is in „tip-top“ condition.“

Austrian, Matthias Mayer, was able to secure first place with a best time of 1:57.44, closely followed by Benjamin Thomson (CAN) just over one tenth of a second later (+0.15). Third place went to yesterday's European Cup winner Daniel Danklmaier, who missed out on pole position by two tenths of a second (+0.24).

Hannes Reichelt was Austria’s third best contender, finishing fifth. Commenting on today’s training the 38-year-old said: „My run was full of mistakes. Now is the time to fine-tune my equipment accordingly.“

This year's World Cup winner from Lauberhorn, Vincent Kriechmayr, is also optimistic:

„I’m still wearing a smile from Wengen, but the focus is now on Kitzbühel: You need to be 100% mentally prepared here. Despite the masses of snow, those in charge have done a great job. „ said the athlete from Upper Austria. He finished 9th in today’s training (1:59.20).
