Sensational Victory on the Streif

20.01.2018

Goosebumps – tears – pure emotion:

the supreme discipline of the Hahnenkamm Races, the Downhill, is now over and its winner will definitely go down in history.

24-year-old German Thomas Dressen won this legendary race ahead of Beat Feuz (SUI) and Hannes Reichelt (AUT) with a sensational time of 1:56,15. Dressen chose the world’s most challenging racecourse to secure his first ever World Cup victory. A successful day for the alpine nations. Our Norwegian favourites were beaten: Aksel Lund Svindal, winner of yesterday’s Super-G, landed in eighth place, while Kjetil Jansrud came tenth. The atmosphere in the Streif finish area was and is fantastic. Today’s skiing fest will continue deep into the night, mainly in Kitzbühel’s fan zones, amongst a sea of German flags.

Thomas Dressen will receive his golden “Gams” trophy in front of thousands of cheering fans at 18:30 hrs in the Red Bull Zielhaus. Shortly before, though, there will be a public bib draw for tomorrow’s highly anticipated Slalom race.
