Kitzbühel-Slalom – Ryding (GBR) in the lead

22.01.2017
Dave Ryding is in the lead after the first Slalom run in Kitzbühel. The Brit mastered the challenging course on the Ganslernhang and is 0.29 seconds ahead of Stefano Gross (ITA). Felix Neureuther (GER/+0.74) is currently in third place. ”This is incredible, being in the lead here is a dream come true. I thought I’d had a solid run, but the fact I am leading came as a surprise. The others will try and take my place in the second run”, said Ryding. Marco Schwarz is the best Austrian, currently in fifth place and 0.84 seconds behind.  Marcel Hirscher (AUT) is 1.02 seconds slower than Ryding and is now eighth. “I have no idea, I actually felt pretty good. I was content as I swerved into the finish area, but my time obviously wasn’t great“, said the overall World-Cup winner. Top-favourite and last year’s victor Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) was disqualified from the Slalom for the first time in two years. He’s not the only one dealing with disappointment, as Manuel Feller (AUT) also dropped out. The Tyrolean surprised us all after having dyed his moustache green. “Last year we picked the wrong colour”, the 24-year-old explained, referring to the purple facial hair he sported last year. “Green is the colour you want at the finish line!” said the athlete. It seems that green was the wrong choice, too. “Obviously the green moustache will have to go – ASAP. Trouble is, it’s the only thing people can laugh about whenever they see me today”, explained Feller.   Results Slalom 1st run:
