The stage is set for the Downhill Race on the Streif

25.01.2020

Yesterday’s Super-G offered spectators a thrilling show. Now it’s time for today‘s Downhill extravaganza: Mausefalle, Steilhang, Hausbergkante – key sections on the Streif, the greatest challenge of the World Cup season, await their vanquishers. For fans this means: sport at its very finest!

The world’s best ski racers will venture onto the legendary racecourse in Kitzbühel from 11:30 hrs. And one thing is clear: ski fans will witness a different winner’s face to that of 2019. Last year’s winner, Dominik Paris from Italy, cannot compete due to injury. He would have been one of the top favourites to win the Downhill.

Other athletes now come to the fore:

The two veterans, Beat Feuz (400 points) and Dominik Paris (384 points) are only separated by a few points after five of ten races. Because of Paris‘ injury, Germany‘s Thomas Dreßen moves up to second place with 201 points. Things are also looking good for Austria’s ÖSV men in this speed discipline. Matthias Mayer currently ranks 4th with 200 points and Vincent Kriechmayr is in 6th place with 174 points.

Here, the overview:

Downhill standings after 5 of 10 races:

  1. Beat Feuz (SUI) 400

  2. Dominik Paris (ITA) 384

  3. Thomas Dreßen (DE) 201

So today’s supreme discipline will be a thrilling affair – we wish all athletes a successful and, above all, injury free Race Weekend!
